Meet the Eight LHDs of the APC Program

 
 
 
Mesa County Advanced Practice Center Located in Grand Junction, Colorado, specializes in gathering information relevant to specific public health policy issues, and incorporating policies and procedures into program plans. Their focus areas include health informatics, environmental health, public health surveillance and epidemiology, medical surge, volunteer managment and quality improvement.

Montgomery County Advanced Practice Center Based in Montgomery County, Maryland is part of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Program. Their focus includes public health emergency awareness and education, systems to dispense medicines and supplies, and vulnerable populations, such as young children and senior residents.

Multnomah County Advanced Practice Center Based in Portland, Oregon specializes in workforce development related to public health preparedness. Their focus is on the development of Just-in-Time training to help LHDs prepare for and respond to public health emergencies. Products strive to increase competency and confidence in performing job duties and intercultural effectiveness.

 

 
 
San Francisco Bay Area Advanced Practice Center is a partnership between the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the UC Berkley Center for Infectious Diseases and Emergency Readiness. It has expertise in infectious disease emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

 
 

 
 
Seattle & King County Advanced Practice Center based in Seattle, Washington develops tools, such as the Family Assistance Center Toolkit, to help LHDs carry out emergency response strategies in the areas of vulnerable and at-risk populations, risk communication, pandemic flu, isolation and quarantine, community and partner engagement, continuity of operations, public information call centers, and much more.
 

 
 

 

 
South Carolina Advanced Practice Center, housed in the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, is located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The site focuses on security issues during various public health emergency response activities. Their products and activities support LHDs when building community partnerships with law enforcement and  coordinating response in disasters.

The Southwest Center for Advanced Public Health Practice based in Tarrant County, Texas has sophisticated emergency preparedness tools and products. It serves as a learning laboratory for biosurveillance, syndromic surveillance, readiness assessment, and workforce development and training, with a focus on radiological/nuclear disasters, volunteer recruitment and retention, and all-hazards emergency preparedness.

Toledo-Lucas County Health Department APC, located in northwest Ohio, specializes in the areas of community preparedness, information sharing, and medical countermeasure dispensing. They assist and train other agencies to prepare for, respond to, and assist in any and all types of disaster.

APC Alumni Network
 
In addition to the eight current APC sites, the following local health departments formerly served as APC sites, developing outstanding APC products:
       
·         Cambridge Public Health Department (MA);
·         Santa Clara County Public Health Department (CA);
·         St. Paul-Ramsey County, Hennepin County, and the City of Minneapolis (MN); and
·         Western New York Public Health Alliance.
 

 
 
APC Connector Sites
 
The APC Connector Sites Initiative took place across 2010 – 2011. It supported field testing and quality improvement of selected APC products. Each Connector site was paired with an APC site, and implemented one of that APC site's products. The Connector sites and the products they implemented are:
 
·          Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (IL) – Reviewing Transitional Framework for Pandemic Readiness and Response (developed by Toledo-Lucas County APC)
·         Gunnison County Department of Health & Human Services (CO) -Reviewing Blueprint for the Use of Volunteers in Hospitals (developed by Mesa County APC)
·         Palm Beach County Health Department (FL) - Reviewing A Prescription for Preparedness: An Online Community for Local Health Departments and Pharmacist to help Ready America for Emergencies (developed by Montgomery County APC)
·         Coastal Health District (GA) - Reviewing On the Safe Side: A Security Toolkit for Public Health Emergencies (developed by South Carolina APC)
·         Southern Nevada Health District (NV) -Reviewing Infectious Disease Emergency Response (IDER) Toolkit (developed by San Francisco APC)
·         Cerro-Gordo County Department of Public Health (IA) - Reviewing Sustaining Critical Services: Continuity of Operations Toolkit for Public Health (developed by Seattle & King County APC)
·         Thurston County Public Health and Social Services Department (WA) - Reviewing Inclusive Just-In-Time Training for Public Health Investigations (developed by Multnomah County APC)
·         Oklahoma City-County Health Department (OK) -Reviewing Biosurveillance Solutions Toolkit (developed by Tarrant County APC)
